One of the mandates of VCRC is Man Power Development in the field of Public Health Entomology especially on the control of vectors and vector-borne diseases to meet the needs at the National and International levels. VCRC has been recognized for conducting the following Post-Graduate studies by the Pondicherry University.

1.    M.Sc., Public Health Entomology


Currently there has been an increasing demand for Public Health Entomologists at the Master’s Degree from many National Programmes. The present needs of these Institutes/Departments are personnel with expertise on basic sanitation, epidemiology, vectors and vector-borne diseases with the application of modern tools and techniques.  Hence the Centre has started a two year M.Sc., course in Public Health Entomology (affiliated to Pondicherry University, Puducherry) from the year 2011, encompassing all the above areas.


Twelve candidates, 8 under ‘open competition’ [Category-I], 2 under ‘in-service’ and 2 under ‘sponsorship’ by WHO/SEARO [Category-II] are being offered admission into M.Sc., Public Health Entomology Course with a stipend of Rs.6,000/- for & Rs.3,000/- per month respectively.


So far, a total of 39 candidates, including 3 from abroad sponsored by WHO and one in-service candidate from State & National organizations have successfully taken this course.


2.    Ph.D. programme


Doctoral Degree programme in three disciplines viz., Microbiology, Zoology & Chemistry are being offered at the Centre, with affiliation to Pondicherry University, Puducherry.  A total of 45 candidates have obtained the doctorate degree so far.


3.    Short Term Students’ Projects


Based on the demand from the Universities and availability of laboratory facilities at the Centre from time to time, Graduate/Post Graduate students are offered suitable projects. Under the Foreign Universities Linkage Programme, students from Georgetown University, Washington DC, and St. Olaf College, Minnesota, USA are given short term projects. 


4.    Formal Training Programme


Formal training programmes are being conducted often on need based mostly related to Integrated Vector Management (IVM) for Public Health Personnel from India and abroad sponsored by National Vector Borne Diseases (NVBDCP), WHO / SEARO.


5.    Informal Training Programme


Students, Faculties / Researchers & Public Health Personnel from various Institutions are offered training for varying period in their areas of interest in vectors and vector borne diseases.


6.    Workshops


In view of the implementation of intervention, monitoring and evaluation of various vector borne disease control programme towards accomplishing the National and Regional agenda, the Centre is organizing workshops in collaboration with the WHO / SEARO, from time to time.
